Today I didn’t really get any work done. I achieved absolutely nothing,....except,
installing Ubuntu 6.06 on a Macbook, thanks to the fantastic guide at bin-false.org
The guide at bin-false.org not only goes through the Ubuntu install and Macbook quirks but also the necessary for setting up AIGLX and associated desktop bling.
So far I’m enjoying the experience, and the performance is more than acceptable – which compares to the poor performance of Xgl on the Intel 855 based machine Jono and I tested (a while ago granted). So far I’ve managed to get the AIGLX setup working on the laptop (which is automatically mirrored to the external monitor), and on just the external monitor alone. Haven’t managed to get dualhead and AIGLX working together – I think that DRI or Composite doesn’t like Xinerama – but I have got regular non-AIGLX dualhead working.
I haven’t seen yet white laptops;)
